The truth about of Montreal's "False Priest"

As Erik reported this morning, of Montreal announced the completion and details of their new album False Priest. The album is set to be released September 14th on Polyvinyl Records.

They are giving away the first single, "Coquet Coquette" for free. Grab it then compare it with the video of Kevin and B.J. premiering the song on Morning Sessions back in April 2009:

Athens art rockers Of Montreal are playing Rams Head Live later this month with opening act James Husband. If the name sounds vaguely familiar, it's because Husband is the stage name of Of Montreal multi-instrumentalist Jamey Huggens.

This sounds indulgent, but it actually makes a lot of sense and here is why:

• Instant Audience: Instead of having to win over a hostile crowd, Husband gets to play to a crowd of people that already adore him.
• Cost: Having the opener in the headlining band saves a lot of overhead.
• Living out the Rock n' Roll Fantasy: As you can see from this video, Husband wants to be the indie rock Robert Palmer. That's simply irresistable.

Of Montreal Strip Down

No, no, no, there will be no frontal nudity (as, sometimes, is the case at their notorious shows), but frontman Kevin Barnes and guitarist Bryan Poole will join me in studio this Friday at 9am for an acoustic set.

I'll have to ask him why he named "An Eluardian Instance," a tune he wrote for his wife, after a French surrealist poet.

But, getting inside Kevin's head won't be easy because he's got so much going on up there, including his transsexual alter-ego, Georgie Fruit.

It's seductive, high-brow, fun, and highly unpredictable music.
