Weekend on the Radio Recap

Every Thursday morning at 6:20 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. Sam Gallant of the Creative Alliance shares with you all the cool happenings around town on on the Weekend on the Radio. This week, WTMD hosts one of The Bridge's final public performances, The Ravens crush some tackling dummies and a beloved institution turns 30. The Bridge Debut New Dance Move

The Bridge clean up pretty good in the video for "Rosie" from their latest album National Bohemian.

And if you think the Baltimore band, known for it's improvisation, is tightening things up with the ties, focus in on Kenny Liner's interpretive dance. Debbie Allen, eat your heart out!

Ravens/Saints Funky Pre-Game Throwdown

The Ravens take on the Saints at M&T Bank Stadium this Sunday and getting you battle ready, though with a decidedly more cooperative vibe than on the gridiron, are some of Baltimore and New Orleans finest bands who'll rock the 8x10 stage Saturday night for a pre-game throwdown

Papa Grows Funk and the Honey Island Swamp Band represent the Crescent City while members of The Bridge and Old Man Brown have Charm City's back.

Don't expect tackling or sideline tripping, just lots of Baltimore and bayou roots rock from musicians who have jammed together before and embody the serendipitous spirit of a traditionally music-rich city and one that's becoming one.

We'll get you ready this Friday at 920am on Morning Sessions as we encore a smokin' set from last year by the Honey Island boys! .

Caleb Stine and Kenny Liner on Baltimore Unsigned

Tune in at 8 p.m. Tuesday as Caleb Stine (above) and The Bridge's Kenny Liner perform new songs for a capacity crowd at The Bunker Recording Studio in Cockeysville. The two veterans of Baltimore's music scene discuss the inspiration behind their new material and how they met.

"I went up to him [after his show] and introduced myself," Liner recalls. "He said, ‘I have a gig next week, bring your mandolin.’ I thought he meant I could sit in for a song but when I got there, he told me I was playing the whole show . . . . We just had a great time and the friendship started.”

Caleb Stine performs a benefit show at 2640 on Saturday, October 9th.

The Bridge headline their 9th Annual Thanksgiving Celebration at Rams Head Live on Wednesday, November 24th.

Kenny Liner on Stuck in the Jam

Tune in at 9 p.m. Wednesday as Bug counts down to the All Good Music Festival in Masontown, WV, with an encore broadcast of The Bridge co-founder Kenny Liner's Stuck in the Jam takeover. Liner showcases some of his influences with tracks from Townes Van Zandt, My Morning Jacket, The Avett Brothers and Larry Williams.

Plus, in the second hour, Bug's Phresh Phish segment features selections from Phish's second night at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sunday, June 27th. 

The Bridge kicks off the first full day of All Good at 1 p.m. Friday on the Dragon Stage. 

The Bridge's Kenny Liner on Stuck in the Jam

Tonight at 9 p.m. on Stuck in the Jam, Bug hands over the reins to The Bridge co-founder Kenny Liner. The Bridge have become have developed quite a reputation on the jam band scene with a relentless touring schedule that includes stops at this year's Bonnaroo and All Good Festivals.

Liner's mandolin adds touches of bluegrass and Americana to the band's fusion of classic and Southern rock. Tonight he features tracks from a variety of influences, including Townes Van Zandt, My Morning Jacket, The Avett Brothers and Larry Williams.

A million heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to the Recher Saturday night to celebrate seven years of WTMD!

It's no wonder they're now working with Steve Berlin! Like Los Lobos, The Bridge fire on all cylinders live, and there's really nothing like experiencing a band that you just KNOW is on the verge of something big. You can just feel the chemistry between Cris, Kenny, Dave, Patrick, Mike, and Mark when they play. And while there were plenty of improvisational moments Saturday night, the songs were performed flawlessly. Can't wait to hear more of that new tune, "Colorado Motel." And talk about a dream-jam, with the Bridge and Caleb Stine performing Paul Simon's "Gumboots?" Sweet soul music, guys. Thanks!
