WTMD listeners take over the airwaves with three-to-five song sets on Thursday.
8 a.m. Jean Luebke
We're taking lots of long family car trips this summer. Listening to great upbeat music always helps make those drives a lot more bearable!
* "Now," by Mates of State
* "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" by She & Him
* "FNT," by Semisonic
* "Hold It In," by Jukebox The Ghost
12 p.m. Abigail Higgs
These are love(ish) tunes by a few bands playing at Virgin Mobile Fest. I like them because I've put each one on a mix CD after a bad break-up when I played the cliché part of love-scorned ex, compiling songs to give to my former lover. Of course, these mixes were never delivered; rather, they make up a nice autobiographical music collection on a spindle kept just below a poster of Morrisey.
* "You Are Free," by Mates of State
* "Daughters of the Soho Riots," by The National
* "Take Me Out," by Franz Ferdinand
* "Pink Triangle," by Weezer
6 p.m. Adam Rutledge
No real reasoning reached, simply selecting some songs so more music minded men and women will want what WTMD does during daily duties.
* "Vittorio E," by Spoon
* "The Beast," by Angus and Julia Stone
* "None Shall Pass," by Aesop Rock
* "Buildings and Mountains," by The Republic Tigers
* "Treat Yo Momma," by The John Butler Trio

Mix Tape Thursday, 7/1/09
WTMD listeners take over the airwaves with three-to-five song sets on Thursday.
6 a.m. David Ziffer
In honor of Weezer, one of this year's Freefest performers, and their debut album, "The Blue Album", I've included a song from that album, a track from 311's self-titled debut, also known as "The Blue Album," and The Beatles' "Blue Album, 1967-1970."
* "My Name is Jonas," by Weezer
* "All Mixed Up," by 311
* "Across the Universe," by The Beatles
8 a.m. Kathy Marr
There are artists I heard for the first time on WTMD and songs that moved me deeply.
* "Forever My Friend," by Ray Lamontagne
* "Be Here Now," by Mason Jennings
* "Pride," by Daniella Cotton
* "You Dance," by East Mountain South
* "Gravity," by Bob Sima
10 a.m. Mary Zajac
A while ago, David Dye had Moby choose a Top 5 on the World Cafe. Moby's theme was "5 Songs That Would Sound Good in a Desolate Parking Lot of an Abandoned Factory at 4 AM." This is my take on that theme.
* "Over the Hillside," by The Blue Nile
* "All I Need," by Radiohead
* "Love Letter," by Nick Cave
* "For the Turnstiles," by Neil Young
* "Famous Blue Raincoat," by Leonard Cohen
12 p.m. Susan Atwell-Keister
Songs of freedom and America for the 4th of July
* "Freedom," by Melissa Ferrick
* "America," from West Side Story
* "This Land Is Your Land," by Woody Guthrie
* "Free Fallin'," by Tom Petty
4 p.m. Melissa Artnak
This is a, hopefully, not too sappy, but still pretty endearing mix tape that is a modern variant on the "I Like You" mix tapes we are all guilty of making as teens.
All of the songs have a summery feel, so the title written on the label of this cassette could be "Grown-up Summer Camp Love Songs," if that's not too cheesy.
* "Rave On," by M. Ward
* "Slow Show," by The National
* "French Navy," by Camera Obscura
* "All My Mistakes," by The Avett Brothers

Submit your own mixtape and enter a drawing to win a pair of VIP tickets to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN!
7 a.m. Joe Grice
- "My Love," by The Bird and The Bee
- "The Fear," by Lily Allen
- "Boom," by Anjulie
9 a.m. Erik Dudziak
I'm not sure if Back Door Slam has ever played at Bonnaroo, but they should. I saw them at Artscape and have been a fan ever since. Both Ben Harper and Band of Horses are rocking out at Bonnaroo this year, and although I have never seen either live I really want to.
- "Come Home," by Back Door Slam
- "Shimmer and Shine," by Ben Harper & The Relentless 7
- "Marry Song," by Band of Horses
11 a.m. Trish Smith
- "Ooh, La, La," by The Faces
This is my favorite song ever because it's not only from my favorite movie (Rushmore), but because it also reveals life lessons.
- "El Scorcho," by Weezer
This was the first Weezer song I ever listened to, and since I'm half Korean (not half Japanese), I feel a connection to it.
- "Coffee & TV," by Blur
This is a great song with an even better music video. Who doesn't like coffee or tv?!
- "In Between Days," by The Cure
My favorite Cure song. It's beautiful.
- "Bittersweet Symphony," by The Verve
"You're a slave to money then you die." What sums up life better than this?
1 p.m. David Paremske
All of these songs are groovy.
- "Helicopters," by Disco Biscuits
- "Maze," by Phish
- "Toe Jam," by BPA
- "Sabotage," by Beastie Boys
5 p.m. Dan Anderson
I think song #1 is great and it just shows how awesome WTMD is - where else would you hear a song like this? Thanks for introducing it to me! I think his voice sounds a little like Dracula's voice and that makes me think of the Dracula song in Forgetting Sarah Marshall (song #2). It's a short funny song, but it's actually pretty good. Then that song makes me think of the line "Send me all your vampires" in song #3. And of course that then makes me think of Vampire Weekend. Did you follow all of that?
- "Epilepsy is Dancing," by Antony and the Johnsons

- "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa," by Vampire Weekend
6 p.m. Maria Shaivitz
I picked these because they are songs that I never get tired of hearing. Thanks WTMD for all the great music you play!
