I was so sad wake up to the news yesterday that Delaney Bramlett passed away after complications from gall bladder surgery.
The Mississippi-born artist contributed mightily to blues rock, but his, and his first wife Bonnie's influence on George Harrison (he taught him slide guitar that later surfaced on "My Sweet Lord"), Leon Russell (he co-wrote "Superstar" with him) and especially Eric Clapton, whom he is credited with encouraging to sing, is probably his most profound legacy.
His laid back "Friends" sessions led to the modern-day concept of "unplugged" sets.
Delaney Bramlett was 69 years old.
